AMOHN Lagos Annual Retreat 2025

The Association of Medical Officers of Health in Nigeria (AMOHN), Lagos Chapter, held its Annual Retreat with the theme “Quality Services: Better Care in the PHC” from 14th–16th December 2025 at the Orchid Hotel, Lekki.

The retreat featured robust technical and policy discussions aimed at strengthening Primary Health Care delivery.

Key sessions included:

Financial Opportunities in the Modern Medical Ecosystem – Dr. Gbenga Ladejobi, MD/CEO, Plural Health

Adapting to the Future: The Evolving Responsibilities of Medical Officers of Health in Primary Healthcare – Dr. Eniola Erinosho, retired DMC/DS, LSPHCB

Enhancing Healthcare Delivery: Quality Improvement Strategies for Medical Officers of Health – Project Aisha Team

Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF): Leveraging Funding Opportunities to Strengthen PHCs – Dr. Temitope Balogun-Alo, Director, Health Planning, Research and Statistics (DHPRS), LSPHCB

The retreat was graced by Dr. Toni Adeyemi, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Health, who represented Prof. Akin Abayomi, Honourable Commissioner of Health and Dr. Oluwakemi Ogunyemi, Special Adviser to Mr Governor on Health. Other distinguished attendees included Dr. Abimbola Bowale, Permanent Secretary, Lagos Health District IV; Dr. Temitope Balogun-Alo, Director, Health Planning, Research and Statistics, LSPHCB; Dr. Veronica Iwayemi, Acting Director, Medical Services and Disease Control, LSPHCB; and Dr. Oluwole Olusanya, Chairman, Medical Guild, Lagos.

Also in attendance were emeritus Medical Officers of Health—Dr. Eniola Erinosho, Dr. Sanni Fausat, Dr. Taiwo Giwa, and Dr. Nurain Ayeola—who shared valuable insights on the evolving roles of Medical Officers of Health and offered mentorship and guidance to newly appointed officers.

A key highlight of the retreat was the induction of newly appointed Medical Officers of Health in the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board, as well as the inauguration of the newly elected executive members of AMOHN, Lagos Chapter:

The retreat was brought to a colourful close with a Cultural-Themed Gala Night, celebrating unity, heritage, and professional camaraderie among Medical Officers of Health in Lagos State.
