The Executive Chairman of Isolo Local Council Development Area, Otunba Adebayo Olasoju On Thursday embarked on quality medical outreach for the aged within the council area.


No fewer than 1000 Elderly across the communities in Isolo LCDA benefited from the first edition of the ‘Care for the Elderly’ program as part of efforts to expand access to quality health care.


The program was held at Dr Nurudeen Olowopopo Memorial Clinic, Isolo, with over 1,000 aged inhabitants of the council area benefiting from free consultation and doses of drugs. Ailments such as diabetes, impaired sight (eye), High Blood Pressure, Diabetes, Cervical Cancer, arthritis, Hepatitis, Prostate Cancer, Breast Cancer were areas of interest for which beneficiaries were screened and given medications.


The council chairman, in his remarks, explained that the program was in fulfilment of his campaign promise made for the aged in the community and furtherance of his ‘Isolo of our dream” mantra. He assured the beneficiaries that the program will be a continuous exercise while arrangements are already put in place for referral to the Isolo General Hospital in case of people diagnosed with severe cases.


Olasoju added that the program is one of his numerous developmental strides in the health sector as his administration is assiduously working on providing a primary healthcare centre in Alagbeji Ward and citing an ultra-modern health care centre in Okota Area of the council.


He revealed that, apart from the 9 roads marked for commissioning to commemorate his 100 days in office, scholarships will be given to students of the council area in addition to over 200 Free GCE rolled out last month, as well as skill acquisition and empowerment programs for youths and women.


His words: “This programme is yet another giant stride this administration will be making within three months of assumption of office. We’ve decided to also prioritise the welfare of our elderly because we want them to enjoy sound health in their old age. As I said earlier, it will be done monthly to complement the health care treatment they enjoy at our primary health care centres. By the end of the year, we will also be organizing an end of the year party for them where they can pleasurably socialize. These are to make sure that they live happier and healthier life even as they age. It should be noted that this program is not only in furtherance of our developmental agenda but also complement the efforts of our governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu in the health sector and his “Greater Lagos” mantra.

The council mayor hinted that 5 additional volunteer doctors will be joining the current 10 medical practitioners by the next edition of the program. He went on to appreciate Afrab Chem Ltd, Evans Therapeutics, Emzor Pharmaceutical, Mopson Pharmaceutical for their donations towards the success of the program as well as the Rotary Club of Isolo.
The Osolo of Isolo, Oba Kabiru Alani Agbabiaka who led other community leaders to the historical program commended the council boss for the laudable initiative emphasising that in his 17 years as a king he’s never seen an indefatigable and innovative chairman like Olasoju before. He urged the beneficiaries to take the drug religiously.


The elated hundreds of beneficiaries were unreserved in their outpour of commendations and gratitude to the council boss for showing unprecedented concern to their healthcare as the majority of them expressed their anticipation for the end of the year party.


“I’m here to make the most of the program. It’s one of a kind. Though I’m here in regards to my eyesight I will ensure that I have a thorough checkup for underlying and benign ailment. I’m grateful to our council chairman, Otunba Adebayo Olasoju. God will continue elevating him,” said a beneficiary, Alice Ayinde.


“I only want to appreciate Olasoju for this program, it is a total surprise to me just as I am still in awe of his numerous developmental projects around the council area. Taking care of the elderly is a social activity that attracts blessing naturally. I pray that God will grant him longevity of life in prosperity,” said another beneficiary, Alhaji Sanni.


The program had in attendance the council’s vice chairman, Hon. Shakir Sadiq Adeola, councillors, traditional and religious leaders, party leaders, executive and members of Community Development Committee (CDC), as well as other stakeholders in the council area.
